The formative assessment quiz consisted of 5 questions based on energetics and we had to work in a pair. The first question was to use system and surroundings to describe what happens when water is heated to its boiling point. Second question was to draw out a graph of a reaction labeling the reactants, products, and activation energy. The third question was to determine the total energy absorbed as a substance dissolves. The fourth question was to explain the difference between the heat energy of a substance and temeprature of a substance. The fifth question was to determine the total amout of energy released by a substance during a chemical reaction. As shown below this was the result of the quiz. Terribly failed it. And these questions appeared on the energetics test and i saved my grade from dropping by a whole lot. I really thanked the formulative quiz although my test scores weren't ideal but i had learnt a whole lot more than i would have if i didn't do my corrections. Moreover, i felt that the new knowledge had compensated for the bad grade and i was able to deal with it reasonably. Now that i think back, it reminds me of what a lot of other teachers say when they tell you to review your quizes, homework and what not before a big test...
